MEMBERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS

In order to become a member of Daughters of Norway, a woman must be at least thirteen years old and be of Scandinavian birth or descent in one of the following ways:

  • Born in Norway or descended from or married to someone who was
  • Born in Denmark, Sweden, Finland or Iceland, be descended from or married to someone who was
  • Have a slektning (relative) who was born in Norway or who was descended from someone who was born in Norway

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

We have two categories of membership in Daughters of Norway based on very simple criteria.

  • Standard Member of a Subordinate Lodge
    1. You live within commuting distance of a lodge*
    2. You complete & submit to the lodge a Standard Membership form (available online)
    3. You join the lodge and pay lodge dues** as specified by the rules of that lodge
  • Associate Member of the Grand Lodge
    1. You do not live within commuting distance of a lodge
    2. You submit to the Grand Lodge Financial Secretary a completed Associate Membership Form (found online) along with the yearly membership fee*** (currently $15.00 USD/person/year ∞ checks only ~ payable to the Grand Lodge Daughters of Norway)

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Membership forms are available online — see left column. Download an application to join a lodge or to become an associate member. Questions regarding lodge membership should be directed to the lodge involved (see lodge listing). Additional information regarding Associate Membership should be sent to the Grand Lodge Financial Secretary.

Members of subordinate lodges enjoy meeting at least once per month (on average) and sharing in opportunities for fellowship, learning, crafts, exploration, etc. Additional, most lodges offer a wide-range of activities for members to participate in. FORMING NEW LODGES

This is actually the third way to join the Daughters of Norway. If there is no lodge near your home, you can help start one. Between 1985 and 2008 we have started eighteen lodges in California, Idaho, Iowa, Oregon, Nevada, and Washington. We are interested in forming lodges in other parts of the country and could use your help.

LODGES FORMING NOW

We are currently considering new lodges in Spokane, WA; Minneapolis , MN; Salt Lake City, Utah; Denver, Colorado; Bismarck and Minot, North Dakota; and Anchorage, Alaska. Additional people are hoping to start lodges in British Columbia and other states including Colorado, (Boise) Idaho, Texas and Massachusetts. We are a non-profit organization, incorporated in the State of Washington and registered with the US Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c8) corporation. We do not sell nor release our mailing list to any other organization. We do not sell insurance nor any other products through our mailing list. We are strictly a fraternal organization intent on promoting Norwegian culture, language, education, history, science and arts.

  2. **The amount of the annual dues varies from lodge to lodge. We currently have lodges in the western US and in Iowa. New lodges are being formed in other states currently.
