Thelma Lodge #26 Everett, WA Preserving our Norwegian heritage... |
Thelma Lodge #26 of Everett, Washington was organized on May 7, 1908. The lodge will hold it's centennial celebration "Thelma by the Sea", on May 3, 2008 in Everett, WA from 1 pm to 4 pm at Normanna Hall in Everett WA (regisration deadline has passed). Meetings are held on the third Saturday of the month September through May at 10:00am at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, 2005 Colby, Everett WA.
The lodge takes it’s name from the protagonist in a romantic novel written by the English writer Marie Corelli who was a best-selling author in Victorian England and eventually in America. Her romantic tale of a Viking princess, Thelma, captures the heart with it’s tale of true love and devotion by the fair Norwegian maiden Thelma. This novel is available online. The book was a best seller in America in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s and Hollywood produced up to four separate films based on this book between 1916 and 1921. In addition, a song about the Norwegian Maiden Thelma was popularized and captured the hearts of many (to hear the tune click (here), and to see the score click (here).
The lodge’s programs and activities focus on members’ shared Norwegian and Scandinavian backgrounds. Their programs have featured authors, films, artists, cooks, etc. sharing their Norwegian heritage backgrounds, professions, and skills. Fellowship and friendships are continually promoted at these events. They welcome like-minded woman (ages 12 and up) to join them at their meetings. Additional meeting and membership information is available by contacting the lodge.
