Becoming a Member of Daughters of Norway

In order to become a member of Daughters of Norway, a woman must be at least thirteen years old and be of Scandinavian birth or descent in one of the following ways:

We have two categories of membership in Daughters of Norway based on very simple criteria. The two categories of membership are:

  1. Standard Membership of a subordinate lodge: You live within commuting distance of a lodge. You join the lodge and pay dues to the lodge as specified by the rules of that lodge. Some Daughters belong to more than one, depending on historical associations, family ties, or other interests. The amount of the annual dues varies from lodge to lodge. We currently have lodges in the western US and in Iowa. Please check the lodge listings and contact the lodge directly or contact the Grand Lodge Secretary of the Daughters of Norway with your name, address, phone and email address. She will forward your request to the appropriate lodge.

  2. A Standard Membership form is available by clicking here.
  3. Associate Member of the Grand Lodge: You do not live within commuting distance of a lodge. You may join as an associate member, receive the national newspaper, Døtre av Norge, and attend the biennial convention of the Grand Lodge (classes, cultural activities, meetings) or participate in other activities of the Grand Lodge, as described in the newspaper. The dues for this category are set by, and paid directly to, the Grand Lodge and are currently US $15 per person per year. We have members in this category in many states of the US, in Canada and in Norway. If you are interested in joining as an Associate Member, please contact the Grand Lodge Secretary with your name, address, phone and email address. She will contact you directly. If you desire an Associate Membership Form, click here. We do not accept credit cards, so this will involve sending a check to the "Grand Lodge Daughters of Norway."
  4. Forming New Lodges in the Daughters of Norway

There is actually a third way to join the Daughters of Norway. If there is no lodge near your home, you can help start one. Between 1985 and 2006 we have started eighteen lodges in California, Idaho, Iowa, Oregon, Nevada, and Washington. (One has since disbanded.) We are interested in forming lodges in other parts of the country and could use your help.

We are currently considering new lodges in Salt Lake City, Utah; Denver, Colorado; and Anchorage, Alaska. If you are interested in helping form these lodges or a lodge in another place, please contact the Organizational Chair with your name, address, phone number and email address. Our Organizational Chairwoman will contact you.

We are a non-profit organization, incorporated in the State of Washington and registered with the US Internal Revenue Service as a 501(C8) corporation. We do not sell nor release our mailing list to any other organization. We do not sell insurance nor any other products through our mailing list. We are strictly a civic organization intent on promoting Norwegian culture, language, education, history, science and arts.
