Daughters of Norway
Preserving our Norwegian heritage...

Embla Lodge continues celebrating its centennial year and will hosting the upcoming 2008 Daughters of Norway Convention in Tacoma, Washington. The lodge was founded in Tacoma on April 24, 1907, with a charter given by the Sons of Norway of the Pacific Coast. It joined with Valkyrien Lodge #1 of Seattle, Washington, and Freya Lodge #3 of Spokane, Washington, to form the Grand Lodge of the Daughters of Norway of the Pacific Coast on February 20, 1928. It is and has been the largest lodge in the Daughters of Norway for the past half century.

Embla Lodge was named for the first woman of the human race in Norse Mythology. Ask and Embla are to the old norsk religion what Adam and Eve are to Judaism and Christianity. Ask and Embla were created from two trees on the seashore by three gods, Odin and his two brothers. The first god gave them life, the second understanding and the third their outward appearance.
