In mid July, Daughters of Norway's Centennial celebrations continue during its national convention! Convention 2008 will be held in the City of Destiny, Tacoma, Washington from July 17 to July 19.

The public is invited to the July 17th Daughters of Norway Cultural Day (displays, sales, and demonstrations) at the Hotel Murano, but only Daughters of Norway may register for classes. Members are encouraged to invite friends and gather new members so they may enjoy all or part of the convention's offerings. Interested in membership? Join Now!

Convention 2008 will be held at the newly renovated Hotel Murano, at 1320 Broadway Plaza, Tacoma, Washington. The hotel features glass art work on every floor in addition to the welcoming glass Viking Ships in the lobby. Note, the special hotel rates has a cut-off date of June 25, 2008. Registration materials are due back in Tacoma by June 1st, so mark your calendars! Convention 2008's class offerings are interesting and fun and have limited space so sign up early! The top quality class presentations include:

Another highlight of the convention experience is the optional Friday evening's A "Hot" Night at the Museum of Glass! Join your sisters on a tour of the museum, seeing four exhibits:

  • Contrast: A Glass Primer
  • Living Legacies
  • Dante Marioni: Form, Color, Pattern
  • Lino Tagliapietra in Retrospect: A Modern Renaissance in Italian Glass

In addition, you will have the opportunity to meet a Scandianvian glass artist who will demonstrate the fascinating art of glass blowing in the museum's hot shop. After learning about glass, relax and enjoy a delicious buffet while quenching your thirst at a no-host bar. Don't forget to try the special "D of N Centennial Cocktail!" Later enjoy the performance of Scandinavian dancers, Richard and Beverly Smaby. You are promised a "hot night" in Tacoma so sign up and don't be left in the "cold"!
